Gil Spencer: Murder victim’s son breaking his silence
08/22/2004
So after 23 years, the son of murder victim Linda Mae Craig has finally
broken his public silence. Arthur Craig Jr. is now on the record. He
would like Nick Yarris, the man convicted of the crime but exonerated by
DNA evidence, to take a lie detector test. If Yarris really wants to
bring "resolution" to the Craig family, which is what he told this
newspaper last April, Art says his passing a lie detector test would
certainly help.
Past that, the 35-year-old Teamster says, he wishes Yarris would just
"shut up" about his mother’s murder.
Jack Beavers, the Philadelphia lawyer Yarris hired to sue Delaware
County authorities for allegedly manufacturing the evidence and
testimony that got Yarris convicted and sentenced to death, doesn’t
think it’s "fair" for anyone to ask his client to take a lie detector
test now.
After all, Beavers told me Friday, "Nick already took and passed a
lie-detector test years ago."
I stopped him right there. I asked Beavers if he was sure about that. He
said he wasn’t.
"I only know what I’ve read," Beavers replied
I asked him where he read it. He couldn’t recall exactly.
"That was my impression," he said.
I recalled being told by a lawyer very familiar with the case that
Yarris had been offered the opportunity to take a polygraph but, for one
reason or another, it never happened.
So I suggested to Beavers he might be wrong on this and he was gentleman
enough (and lawyer enough) to admit that he might be.
Still, he said, "If he took one he passed it. That is what the record
will show ... or will not show."
Now there, I couldn’t disagree with him.
The main thing, Beavers said, is "the (civil suit) is going to end up
being tried in front of a jury. What is alleged in the complaint is
proven. It is going to be clear that Nick had no involvement (in Mrs.
Craig’s death). What Craig Jr. is basing his thoughts on is fabricated.
We know that the admissions that Yarris supposedly made were false. Who
made them up? Yarris or the police? We know (based on the DNA evidence)
he didn’t rape the decedent. We know that statements are false. Now who
made them up?"
As for polygraphs, Beavers said, "When the police are ready to take
lie-detector tests then I’ll consider it. But you’re not going to get
them to. They’re the ones that set up Yarris. They’re the ones that led
Arthur Craig Jr. to his current beliefs. They’re the ones that led the
jury to believe that he (Yarris) had done it.
"The evidence is conclusive that he’s not the killer and he’s not the
rapist. You have to believe the world is flat and the universe rotates
around the earth to believe that Yarris is guilty of the rape and the
murder. We know that he got railroaded. We know that he was innocent."
We certainly know that somebody else was involved in the rape and murder
of Linda Mae Craig. We know that the prosecution’s theory of the crime,
that Yarris stalked, attacked and killed her because she resembled a
girlfriend who dumped him, is baloney.
We know somebody has gotten away with murder for 23 years.
Friday morning I called Yarris and told him what Art Craig had said
after almost a quarter century.
He said he didn’t have any comment for the newspaper but he did ask me
to give Craig his cell phone number.
"He can call me if he wants to talk," Yarris said.
I relayed the message to Craig. I told him I thought it was manful of
Yarris to be willing to go it over with him.
He disagreed.
"The only way I want to talk to him is if he has wires strapped to his
chest," Craig said. "If he wants to do so much for me and the family,
then take a lie-detector test."
After that, depending on the results, he said, "I’ll back him up. I’ll
stand right next to him with that (bull) horn," a reference to one of
Yarris’ impromptu appearances at the Media Courthouse demanding justice.
"Prove it to me first," Craig said, "then I’ll talk to you."
Of course, that isn’t how our criminal justice system works. People
don’t have to prove their innocence. The state has to prove their guilt.
But when it comes to proving his own innocence in this case, Nick Yarris
and his lawyers have come about as close to doing so as is humanly
possible.
Arthur Craig Jr. would like him to come even closer.
Until then, he says, they have nothing to talk about.

De Facto Dictatorship USA
By Leon Fisher
Unknown News
8-18-4
Powerful interests from within and without have collectively, and over time,
by means of bribery, intimidation, blackmail, and assassination, usurped the
Constitutionally-mandated government of the United States.
We are now living in a de facto dictatorship.
In the White House, we have an unelected idiot with name recognition only,
useful only for those who installed him there and very little else.
In order to remain in control of the government in Washington, and to
perpetuate the power of the Oligarchs, only candidates acceptable to the
Oligarchs will be tolerated.
These candidates already exist, commonly called "career politicians" or
"Washington insiders," etc., and any other candidates, any candidates
espousing opinions and policies contrary to that of the Oligarchs, never
make it past the primaries.
Both Houses of Congress are little more than a rubber stamp, with voting
records proving a willingness to support legislation favorable to the ruling
elite, contrary to the good of the people. As for the Supreme Court, its
part in the criminal theft of the 2000 presidential election, helping
precipitate the events of September 11, 2001, will live forever in infamy.
Among the many special interest groups and powerful lobbies whose wealth and
influence have stolen the voice of the people, there exists an entity
without conscience or loyalty, whose greed is insatiable, capable of any act
which will advance its agenda. I will refer to this entity henceforth as the
Oligarchs.
The dictionary defines the word 'oligarch' as a member a small exclusive
class in which the supreme power of government has been placed in their
hands. Although power is firmly in the hands of the Oligarchs, they remain
anonymous, a shadow government.
To create the perception of normalcy for the average citizen, and to keep
the more petty and mundane duties of government going, career politicians
are used. But matters of real importance are decided in advance and in
private by members of the Oligarchy, and only later are a powerless
President and Congress allowed to engage in empty debate, and to cast a
useless vote or a veto, all for the benefit of the citizenry to further the
illusion of legitimacy.
Elections, an important aspect of a democracy and an indispensable exercise
of a free people, are allowed to continue, but this of course has become
just another illusion to keep the general public ignorant and manageable.
In order to remain in control of the government in Washington, and to
perpetuate the power of the Oligarchs, only candidates acceptable to the
Oligarchs will be tolerated. These candidates already exist, commonly called
"career politicians" or "Washington insiders," etc., and any other
candidates, any candidates espousing opinions and policies contrary to that
of the Oligarchs, never make it past the Primaries.
Criticized or ignored by the mainstream media and rejected by their
respective political parties, not even a candidate with popular grassroots
support stands a chance. We have seen this happen many times in the recent
past.
The Oligarchs have our candidates chosen for us, and there is nothing we can
do about it.
Voting therefore has become irrelevant.
The freedom born in 1776 is no more.
